Frequently Asked Questions

Chiropractic is the location and removal of vertebral subluxations. This is achieved through Chiropractic adjustments. Chiropractic is the largest drug free primary health care profession in the western world and the third largest primary health care profession in the western world after conventional medicine and dentistry.

A vertebral subluxation is a spinal joint dysfunction or restriction which causes interference or pressure on the nerves exiting your spine. The end result of this can be pain, muscle spasm and organ dysfunction.

A Chiropractic adjustment is a therapeutic procedure that utilizes a controlled force, direction, amplitude and velocity to restore normal joint movement at subluxated vertebral joints. An adjustment can be manual (with the hands), via an activator instrument or through the Chiropractic table drop piece mechanism.

Chiropractic is based on the nervous system. The Nervous System controls every cell, tissue and organ in our body. The Human body is self healing and self regulating. The spine protects the nervous system. All of the messages sent out from our central nervous system reach our bodies cells, muscles, ligaments, joints and organs via 31 pairs of spinal nerves. Vertebral Subluxation(s) cause interference to the messages exiting the spine via the spinal nerve roots and affect joint motion. As such, the functions of the joints, muscles, ligaments and organs of the corresponding spinal nerve roots are also affected. This can result in a myriad of symptoms, namely pain and premature degenerative change to the spine.

Chiropractic adjustments remove vertebral subluxation(s). This restores normal joint range of motion and clears irritation to the nervous system allowing the body to function at its optimum.

Chiropractic provides a safe and natural approach to healthcare, allowing the body to inherently heal itself without the use of drugs or surgery

How long you want to receive Chiropractic care is up to you. However, everyone does require regular maintenance at a rate beneficial to them. Most of our patients continue to receive regular care to help keep them in shape. These Chiropractic check-ups can help support the final stages of healing and help detect and resolve new problems before they become serious.

Simply, yes. Chiropractors are trained spinal specialists and perform millions of adjustments around the world each day for pain relief. By comparison a study conducted by Maigne (Maigne R. Orthopedic Medicine: A New Approach to Vertebral Manipulations. Springfield, Illinois, Charles C. Thomas. 1972; 155, 169.), highlights that when comparing Chiropractic to anti-inflammatory drugs for pain relief Chiropractic care is up to 250 times safer.

There are many benefits to working on babies and children including relief from colic, constipation, reflux, Post birth neck dysfunction, breastfeeding latching difficulties and much more

Although there are many Chiropractic techniques, Chiropractic care is tailored to each individual based on age, condition and spinal problem etc. Adjustment application, force and frequency will always be unique to each individual to facilitate healing at the body’s optimal rate.

For example adjustment force is lighter in children as their joints are more freely mobile and therefore require less force for the desired adjustment affects. Adjustment frequency will be determined by numerous factors such as type of problem, past traumas, age, length the problem has been present etc.

A unique Chiropractic care plan will be provided for you at Northern Inland Chiropractic based on thermal/emg scans, x-rays (if needed), a thorough patient history and physical examination.
